Building off the success of the darkly witty single ‘Reality’ released earlier this year, Local Boy returns with the optimistic summer anthem ‘Milkshake Pilltaste’. The track is a bouncy blend of anthemic hooks, Irish-hip hop verses and smooth bedroom pop guitars as the Dublin artist waxes lyrical about the power of the summer sun to pull us through our darkest times.
Characteristically of Local Boy, the track is an idiosyncratic mix of his varied influences - funk drums underpin bedroom pop guitar chords as Local Boy shifts between his theatrically soulful vocals on the chorus and his Irish hip-hop indebted percussive flow on the verse. In the song’s pre-chorus, Local Boy name checks a local influence he’s particularly fond of, former Republic of Loose frontman Mik Pyro.
“This track is the start of an exciting period of projects and releases for me, so I wanted to kick things off on a fun and optimistic note,” says Local Boy.
“The themes get heavier on a lot of my new music so I wanted to remind myself that sometimes getting out in the sun and breathing fresh air can be so important for giving us a fresh perspective when times are hard.”
